Updates, appologies, and Vick

I do appologize for not updating lately but I feel that I don't have much to say. In my eyes basketball season is over, the Blackhawks' season ended with style and the countdown to kickoff seems like it takes forever. I'm not the biggest baseball fan though I probably will write about it as all the teams make their last hopeful push for the playoffs.

I am writing this just to update any news that has happened fairly recently. The broncos have named former Bears quaterback Kyle Orton starter over Chris Simms and the Atlanta Falcons have released the rights to Michael Vick. Now the question is, where does Vick go? Any team that is going to sign him will definately get negative publicity and that team is clearly desperate. Another question is have is will Vick still play quaterback? We have all seen his incredible talent escaping tacklers and his abilty to throw the ball downfield over 60 yards in just the flick of his wrist. Well first things first. There are several teams that may be in the market for a new quaterback. The Redskins, Rams, Vikings, 49ers and as always, the Raiders. The Redskins have already stated they're not interested in Vick and I don't see Mike Singletary signing a huge problem player, so that rules out the 49ers. The Vikings looked like they were going to sign Brett Favre but like I said (off the blog) its not happening. Even though the Vikings did just draft problem player Percy Harvin and Mike Vick would look really great bombing the ball deep to Bernard Berrian or running the wildcat with Harvin, the Vikings will shy away from the poor publicity. The Raiders make it sound like Jamarcus Russell is on a very short line and if he fails again this season, his time in Oakland could be over. The organization doesn't seem to care what anyone says anymore and they proved that by drafting Darrius Heyward-Bey much earlier than anyone expected (7th pick overall in this past year's draft). For a franchise in desperation, is Vick their answer? The St. Louis Rams are another team that are in desperation. Marc Bulger is closing in on retirement and the franchise is for sale. With a new coach in town, why not go after a young and explosive player in Vick? The poor publicity might again be the reason why Vick won't land here but of all the teams I think the Rams are the best fit.

Any team that signs Vick knows that suspensions are looming but, and I repeat but, if either the Raiders or the Rams were to sign Vick today, the NFL could quickly release the extent of the suspension. Here is why it shouldn't matter. Both teams already have a starting quaterback. Vick could be signed as a backup, learn the offense, and be ready to go by the end of this season or even the beginning of next. For two franchises in despair, why not?
